Proof of Concept
Project: Creating a Proof of Concept to demonstrate a start-up's vision and capabilities
Role: UX Strategy, UX Architecture, User Research
The problem
The FinTech start-up was pitching our vision using Powerpoint decks and it was becoming increasingly difficult to tell our story. We decided to build a proof of concept to demonstrate the core features and underlying vision behind the company
Project Highlights
- Discovery: The team gathered all of the primary and secondary research that had been done to date and prioritized the biggest pain points we wanted to address. We also had to consider the context in which the story would be told - we would be showcasing the POC to potential investors and partners who may have little background on the FinTech space.
- Concept: We created a user flow of what the user’s journey might look like. The flow included entry points from outside the app ecosystem so we could tell the end-to-end story to potential investors and partners. For each piece of the journey, we identified what the user was trying to accomplish and how this added to the overall narrative. For this narrative, we told the story of a user who enters the app and uses it create a financial goal to work towards.
- Design: UX, Design, Content, Behavioural Science, and Front-End Development worked closely throughout the rapid design and prototyping stage of the POC. As each piece was whiteboarded, it was designed and built. All pieces had to be designed to be modular and be technically feasible for use in the final product.
- The outcome: At the end of the project, we completed a POC that clearly demonstrated the journey for a user we named Clare. We went on the test this POC with real-world users and fed those learnings directly into future iterations of the app. I went on to demonstrate this POC to dozens of potential investors and partners, helping the FinTech raise additional funds and secure relationships with financial institutions.
